Our goal is to inspire, educate, and empower parents to take control over their own financial lives and the lives of their children. Given the growing complexity of the financial services marketplace, teaching our kids the ability to make sound informed money decisions is critical. We know that money decisions drive hopes, dreams, life goals and aspirations. As a result, we believe, teaching financial literacy now, will help secure the economic future of our kids today and for generations to come.
Smartchoicemoms.com was founded by Charlene Hill Fadirepo. A self-proclaimed “financial literacy junkie”, Charlene has an MBA in finance and has nearly 2 decades of experience in the financial services industry. Her background in financial analysis, real estate private equity, and management consulting has laid the framework for Charlene’s own journey as a financially empowered mom. She learned the value of hard work and hustle early, given her undergraduate background in Engineering. Being inspired by her money saavy parents, Charlene purchased her first home by 26. Professional success in the financial services industry afforded her the ability to travel the world, explore her personal interests and most importantly live a financially independent life.
Charlene became passionate about teaching financial literacy early in her career during her days as young associate at Citibank. For several years she taught elementary school students money management concepts via Junior Achievement and other internal banking programs. Years later as a management consultant, she spent a week in Belize City, Belize, and taught Belizean parents and teachers via her firm’s financial literacy curriculum. In 2013, while on maternity leave with her first son, she launched the $martChoiceNation.com, a financial literacy social enterprise firm committed to building a nation of youth well equipped to make smart money choices. Shortly there after she launched $martchoicemoms.com, an online community that celebrates financially empowered parenthood, based on her passion to empower parents — especially mothers to take control of their financial lives. Charlene lives in Annapolis, MD with her husband and young son.
